Projects involving facilities for performing arts education require particular care to understand and meet both the actual needs of the resident institution and probable future growth. Artec works closely with the faculty and administration of the school, or conservatory, at the outset of the project to jointly establish the appropriate size and type of necessary spaces and the desired level of quality for the institution. This information forms the basis of the key planning materials that Artec develops in the Pre-Design Phase, in particular the Facility Description and Space List, which are used to estimate the construction cost. Artec then continues to advise the Client and the other members of the design team through the development of the design, construction and beyond.

The need for a wide range of room types – each with different acoustics characteristics, and each with different Specialized Performance Equipment Systems – makes designing quality educational facilities for the performing arts particularly challenging. Artec has experience in designing to a wide range of quality levels, from teaching studios included in modest-budget performing arts centers to facilities designed to the needs of some of the most demanding educational institutions.
