In order to achieve the highest quality for the
available resources, the design and planning for any project begins
with the right approach. While each project is unique, many projects
fall into one of the following categories.
Educational
Facilities
New
Facilities
Renovations

Projects involving the renovation of existing
performing arts facilities are particularly challenging. Aspects
of such projects that can differentiate them from new facility projects
include the need to work within the fabric of an existing building,
historical preservation concerns, and often, a relatively limited
budget. The challenge for Artec is to work closely with the Client
and the users to carefully define needs and goals, and then to develop
appropriate, imaginative and cost-effective solutions. Artec then
continues to advise the Client and the other members of the design
team through the development of the design, construction and beyond.
Artec's Design and Planning services for renovation projects start
with two important initial steps. The first is familiarization with
the existing facility and its strengths and weaknesses. The second
is to develop or confirm the feasibility of the client's goals in
theatre functionality, acoustics, or audience comfort. Based on
this work, Artec will develop a preliminary concept of the modifications
that are appropriate. These conceptual modifications are then developed
in conjunction with the other members of the design team, which,
depending on the project, would include structural and mechanical
engineers, historical preservation specialists, cost consultants
and architects.
