Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre is part of
The Accolade Building Project at York University. Opened in March
2006, the complex is the new home for the Music
Department, Dance
Department and The
Art Gallery of York University. This multi-faceted mixed-use
facility was built on an extremely aggressive schedule under a guaranteed
maximum price contract.
The Theatre is an intimate performance space
with seating for 350, which is spread out over the main floor and
a single balcony that wraps alongside the walls of the theater.
It features a rigging system that accommodates opera and theater
productions, and is also equipped to stage modest musical theater
and dance performances.
In addition to Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre,
The Accolade Building features a Tribute Communities Recital Hall, a dance studio/small performance space for 100 patrons,
rehearsal spaces - each dedicated to orchestra, choir, percussion
and world music respectively - and a series of practice studios
for teaching and rehearsals. Acting and choreography studios, computer-aided
composition and editing rooms, screening rooms of various sizes,
and a fully equipped digital recording studio are connected to all
of the larger rehearsal and performance spaces.
