Tribute Communities Recital Hall is part of The Accolade Building
Project at York University. Opened in March 2006, the complex is
the new home for the Music
Department, Dance
Department and The
Art Gallery of York University. This multi-faceted mixed-use
facility was built on an extremely aggressive schedule under a guaranteed
maximum price contract.
Tribute Communities Recital Hall is intimate 350-seat space designed
specifically for music performances but with the capabilities to
accommodate a modest variety of other events, such as lectures and
presentations. The hall primary used for recitals, symphonic concerts,
jazz, and some pop music performances by the University community
and touring guests. To increase its versatility, Tribute Communities Recital Hall is
equipped with adjustable acoustic banners that convert the room
to one suitable for speech, and a sound system that accommodates
lightly amplified events.
The Accolade Building also features Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre, a dance studio/small performance space for 100 patrons,
rehearsal spaces - each dedicated to orchestra, choir, percussion
and world music respectively - and a series of practice studios
for teaching and rehearsals. Acting and choreography studios, computer-aided
composition and editing rooms, screening rooms of various sizes,
and a fully equipped digital recording studio are connected to all
of the larger rehearsal and performance spaces.
