Festival Performance Hall is part of Parry Sound's extraordinary new performance center that is at once both impressive and inviting. Situated on the shore of Georgian Bay, the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts is designed in a style that echoes the color scheme and cottage architecture style of the region. The Centre opened its doors is 2002.
Inside, the 480-seat Festival Performance Hall has a striking interior of rough-hewn, locally quarried stone beneath a cross-beamed roof of Northern Ontario pine. The hall's flexible seating systems can be adjusted to accommodate all types of different performances during The Festival of Sound - one of Northern Ontario's largest summer musical events - and for a variety of regional and touring productions.
The project was realized through a surprising partnership with hockey enthusiasts; the Centre is also home to the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, which honors the renowned Canadian hockey star, Parry Sound's most famous native.
Artec provided Design and Planning services covering Auditorium Design, Facility Planning, Specialized Performance Equipment Systems Design and Background Noise and Vibration Control consulting for the project. The architects on this project were Toronto's Keith Loffler Architect and ZAS Architects Inc.
