Opperman Music Hall is a recital hall located
in the Kuersteiner Building of Florida
State University's (FSU) School of Music. Built in 1948, Opperman
Music Hall earned acclaim as one of the best music facilities in
the United States at the time. Artec's work on its 1991 renovation
was done to further improve the natural acoustics of the room, including
flexibility of acoustic environment and isolation from extraneous
internal and external noises.
Artec's theatre planning upgrades included the
planning of space allocation and circulation, design of counterweight
rigging, orchestra pit, forestage lift, as well as design of the
systems for production lighting and sound and communication.
Opperman Music Hall seats 500 people and can
accommodate concerts ranging from solo recitals to chamber orchestra,
band, and opera performances. The 1975, 34-stop Holtkamp Tracker
Organ, visible on stage, is used for recitals, concerts, and lessons.
Each year the FSU
School of Music offers over 400 performances featuring faculty
members, students, guest artists, and ensembles of all sizes. The
facility supports seven choral ensembles, jazz bands, concert bands,
chamber music, music theatre, opera, orchestras, and various special
ensembles.
