Main Stage Theater resides within the Luther
F. Carson Four Rivers Center for the Performing Arts. Opened in
February 2004, Four Rivers Center is home to the Paducah
Symphony Orchestra, while providing an adjustable performance
space for music of all kinds. Grand Opening celebrations showcased
that very well with exciting performances by the Symphony, Vince
Gill, and B.B.
King.
The Center boasts a flexible 1800-seat proscenium
theater designed for a wide range of events, from traveling Broadway
musicals and symphony orchestras to pop music concerts and lectures.
The seating arrangement is in the traditional opera house "horseshoe
shape," which achieves warmth and intimacy with excellent sightlines.
The farthest seat is no more then 112 feet from the stage. Each
level of the orchestra and tiers is composed of fixed, loose, and
demountable seats. Many seats, on various levels, can be removed
quickly to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
Acoustic curtains in the audience chamber can
extend into, or retract from, the room in order to control the length
and strength of the reverberant sound. Extending curtains helps
tame excessive loudness, and adjusts the acoustics of the room for
events requiring a less reverberant environment. Moveable concert
towers can be placed in various configurations on the stage to help
musicians better hear themselves, as well as to be better heard
within the hall. This acoustically supportive option is intended
for use for various types of music events.
