The Concert Hall will be a part of the Iceland
National Conference and Concert Centre, which will also house a
recital theater and a flexible conference space. The Iceland National
Conference and Concert Centre is, itself, part of a larger waterfront
development scheme that is intended to include a 400-unit hotel,
15000 square meters of retail zone, and an abundance of public space.
The Centre is scheduled to open in late 2009.
The concert hall is currently envisioned as an
1800-seat venue and will be the home of the Iceland
Symphony Orchestra.
It is hoped that the Icelandic Centre will become a home to national
ensembles, as well as local performing art groups, and will accommodate
both touring groups and international conferences. With a variety
of performance and meeting space, the Centre will be able to host
a multitude of events such as symphonic concerts, chamber music,
choral concerts, solo recitals, jazz cabaret, exhibits, and trade
shows.
