Symphony Hall is located within International
Convention Centre. Artec Consultants Inc provided comprehensive
consulting services for this facility, Britain's largest convention
center, which opened in April 1991. The Centre features a total
of 11 different halls, with extensive office and support facilities.
This 2164-seat Concert Hall is the home of the
City
of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, as well as a venue for touring
entertainment groups and convention meetings. By the end of its
first year, Symphony Hall was unanimously hailed as the finest hall
in England and on par with the greatest halls of Europe. Intended
primarily for classical music events, acoustic flexibility allows
the Hall to be used for a wide range of events. One of the earliest
members of Artec's acclaimed family of world-class concert halls,
Symphony Hall features a few of Artec's signature adjustable acoustic
elements including a mobilized multi-piece canopy and acoustic control
chambers.
The
International Convention Centre, now one of the premier major
meeting venues in Europe, has created new jobs and provides a welcome
boost to employment prospects throughout the Midlands. In addition,
the Centre draws tourists to the region, creating more business
for city hotels, restaurants, and entertainment facilities.
Artec collaborated on Pre-Design
Phase services and lead the work on Symphony
Hall (Hall 2) and the Conference
Auditorium (Hall 1). Artec provided Design and Planning services
covering Auditorium
Design, Facility
Planning, Specialized
Performance Equipment Systems Design and Noise
& Vibration Control consulting for the ICC.
The architects of the International Convention Centre were Percy
Thomas Partnership and Renton
Howard Wood Levin.
