Victoria Theater is the flexible space within
New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). Opened in 1997, the New
Jersey Performing Arts Center comprises two major performance spaces
- Prudential
Hall and Victoria Theatre - a visually arresting all-glass lobby,
restaurants, dressing rooms, founders lounge, bar, café,
and gift shop. In a structure directly adjacent to NJPAC, The Lucent
Technologies Center for Arts Education houses the activities
and training of the Center's Education Department. This design-build
project has been an instant success and is looked upon as a model
project in urban renewal, architectural design and operation of
performing arts centers.
The 500-seat Victoria Theater conveys an intimate
and inviting atmosphere with its orchestra-level and single balcony
seating. The theater's elegance and flexibility provide a perfect
setting for theatrical production, chamber recital, contemporary
dance, jazz and popular music concerts, and experimental theater.
In order to adjust the room's acoustical environment for speech
or amplified events, acoustical curtains can be extended; this action
provides a reduced level of sound reverberance.
Every year the Center presents a multitude of
touring groups and companies along with performances by its New
York City's American
Ballet Theatre, and NJPAC's resident company, the New
Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
