Classical Hall, at the North Jutland House of Music complex in Aalborg is a smaller performance and rehearsal venue suited to recitals and chamber music. This purpose music performance space is one of five performance venues within this performance, rehearsal, and educational facility. Construction began on the 16,000 m2 facility in Fall 2005, with an anticipated opening in 2012. It will be the largest facility of its type in the North Jutland region of Denmark and it is the home of Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Academy of Music, Aalborg Department of Music and Music Therapy (Aalborg University) and Department of Architecture and Design (Aalborg University).
The Classical Hall can accommodate 175 patrons on one level of raked seating. The first three rows of seating can be removed to create a position for musicians to perform during small, lightly-staged operatic activities. The design provides accommodation for a full range of production lighting, audio, and production communication systems. Variable acoustics features include a motorized drapery system to selectively cover upper wall surfaces in the hall, so that users can adjust the level of reverberance to suit the musical style.
