The concert hall Salle Pleyel was originally
built in 1927 and has always been considered the premier concert
venue in Paris. The hall reopened after extensive renovations on September 13th, 2006, and will be operated
by the Cite
de la Musique, featuring the Orchestre
de Paris, the Orchestre
Philharmonique de Radio France, and the London
Symphony Orchestra as resident orchestras. In addition to this,
the Cite de la Musique will present a wide range of musical ensembles
from France and around the world in the new Salle Pleyel.
The renovation changed the seating capacity of
the concert hall from the original 2386 to a smaller, and more intimate,
1920. Adjustment of the seating rakes to improve sightlines, and
the addition of new side balconies also add to the venue's intimacy
and serve to improve the acoustical environment. The entire concert
platform area was reconfigured, and a new motorized orchestra
riser system was implemented. A redesign of the concert platform
ceiling allowed installation of new sound and rigging systems.
